Already firmly entrenched at Radio Canada International and INA, the French National AudioVisual Institute, two Restore Suites have been purchased by RSI, the Italian Language Radio and Television Public Broadcast Network.

Fabio Bernasconi, Head of Post Production TV, reports that in addition to Restore Suites for repairing impaired audio recordings, RSI has also acquired Sonnox Enhance packages (featuring Oxford Inflator, Transient Modulator and Limiter), and Oxford SuprEsser plug-ins.

With the mandate of informing, entertaining and contributing to the cultural development of Italian speakers throughout Switzerland and Northern Italy, RSI offers 2 Public Broadcasting TV channels and 3 radio stations, which promote democratic opinion, provide public information and preserve cultural identity.

“We use the suite with Pro Tools HD in audio postproduction mixing rooms to reduce noise, and correct defects resulting from archival or production related issues,” reports Mr Bernasconi. “These plug-ins are very efficient, they sound good, and they are priced competitively.”

In describing a recent restoration assignment, Sound Designer – Massimo Pellegrini explained that “the Restore Suite is as simple to use as it is effective. You just open the DeClicker in AudioSuite, check with preview, adjust threshold and sensitivity, and the clicks on the audio track are gone. The DeBuzzer is equally effective for hum removal of 40hz or 50hz. We find the ease of operation and the graphical representation of clicks and background noise especially useful and,” he concludes, “the presets offer an excellent starting point for the process.”

Commenting on the RSI sale, Sonnox Sales & Marketing Manager, Nathan Eames remarked, “It is heartening to see these products accepted so quickly by the international broadcast community. Our goal was to make the process of eliminating extraneous noise and repairing damaged audio tracks as transparent, efficient and affordable as possible. It appears as though we have achieved this goal with Sonnox Restore. It makes us feel that we have provided a genuine service to the industry.”
