Focusrite RedNet System Simplifies Connectivity for Southwestern College’s Center for Recording Arts & Technology

Immersive audio arts program adds two RedNet 5 HD interfaces for Pro Tools® and three RedNet 2 16-channel analog interfaces

Los Angeles, CA, July 30, 2013 – The Recording Arts & Technology program at Southwestern College in the San Diego California suburb of Chula Vista is one of the nation’s top audio programs. Begun in May 2008, under the direction of Professor Jay Henry, a two-time Grammy® award nominee for his engineering and production skills, the Recording Arts & Technology program prepares students for careers in the entertainment industries of music, television and film, utilizing state-of-the-art music studios and labs for a hands-on learning experience that emphasizes fundamental recording technique and knowledge. Henry entered the music industry decades ago, and has experienced the huge changes in the music recording industry; he has kept his educational program flexible to adapt to the changes yet to come. Once these units are installed, the two studios at the core of the Recording Arts and Technology program will be able to be completely networked, allowing seamless access of audio between rooms and giving students and faculty a high degree of flexibility in how those facilities are used.

RedNet 5 is interoperable with other Pro Tools® interfaces and features extremely low latency.

RedNet 2 adds 16 analog channels in and out to your RedNet network and can be located anywhere you can run an Ethernet cable. Audio-Technica Supports Nashville’s Pearl-Cohn Entertainment Magnet High School’s New Recording Program

STOW, OH, July 19, 2013 — Audio-Technica, a leading innovator in transducer technology for over 50 years, is proud to be among an elite group of audio equipment manufacturers lending key support to Nashville’s Pearl-Cohn Entertainment Magnet High School (the only entertainment magnet high school in the country) as it rolls out its new recording technology program and world-class recording studio, the result of Nashville Metro Schools’ “Music Makes Us” initiative. The studio was designed and assembled by leading members of The Recording Academy® Producers & Engineers Wing®, and is part of the first-ever student-run record label in a high school. The studio, which will serve the school’s Academy of Entertainment Management and Academy of Entertainment Communication divisions, is a multi-room facility with a large control room that will allow several students and teachers to work comfortably using the recording equipment, synthesizers, digital samplers and drum machines. The studio also features a sizable tracking room where the Audio-Technica microphones will be employed as students capture recordings of live musicians. The facility also features several isolation booths and two 5.1 surround sound editing suites. In addition, the studio houses a multi-station teaching area with 30 Apple iMac-equipped workstations connected to the teacher’s station and the studio.

The three-day conference will focus on teaching methods, instructional resources, learning outcomes, technical operations, industry relations and related topics that impact the theoretical and practical aspects of professional audio education. The conference will bring together leading educators and professional audio industry representatives to exchange ideas and knowledge that will contribute to improving quality and effectiveness for students and faculty alike. The event will also for the first time include a significant focus on live sound as a component of a pro audio education curriculum, a fact underscored by the event’s keynote address delivered by Bob McCarthy, Director of System Optimization at Meyer Sound.

In recent decades, audio education has expanded significantly worldwide, with many colleges and universities, career institutes, high schools and manufacturers now offering a wide range of courses and training in professional audio. There are practical questions that administrators and faculty face managing audio as a discipline within educational institutions. For example, what skill sets should students develop and what career options can they pursue? What are the practical and financial implications of acquiring, installing and maintaining necessary equipment and infrastructure? How does the popularity of distance learning affect audio education? AES Draws World R&D Community for Sound Field Control Conference

Designed specifically for contractors and system integrators who need a high-quality, cost-effective alternative for clients on a limited budget, the all-welded LBR racks, manufactured from 100% certified U.S. steel, support loads of up to 800 pounds on Lowell’s proven, robust structural foundation and feature solid sides with upgraded ventilation capabilities plus a reversible, vented rear door.

Lowell’s LBR rack line is available in depths or either 22 or 27 inches, and in heights up to 44 rack units (RU).
