Sound Quality Takes the Stage at GRAMMY® FutureNow

SANTA MONICA, Calif. Lowell Introduces Rackmount Fan Panels with Built-in Thermostat

PACIFIC, MO, July 5, 2012 — Lowell Manufacturing Company recently introduced a new built-in thermostat option for 19-inch panels with whisper-quiet or turbo fans. This thermostat is actually built right into the cord, activating and deactivating fans when ambient temperatures reach pre-set points. The thermostat automatically turns fans on when the ambient temperature hits 86?F (30?C), and off when the temperature is 72?F (22?C). This power-saving feature ensures efficient fan operation, while saving rack space. The bright green cord highlights the energy-savings benefit to customers.

Whisper fans (Model Series FW):
Each fan has a 4.7″ diameter, 50 cfm airflow rating, 28 dB noise rating, and requires 5.5 Watts of power. Includes fan guards and power cord. Whisper fans are available in two formats: 19-inch E.I.A. Fan Panels, 3U (with 2 or 3 fans) or 7U (with 4 fans); as well as a single fan kit for spot cooling.

Turbo fans (Model Series FT):
The single 10″ diameter fan (19″ E.I.A. 7U panel) has 550 cfm airflow rating and 50.8 dB noise rating, requiring 61 Watts of power. The package includes front/rear fan guards and cord.

Zeehi Declares Independence for Digital Mixing Console Users, Announcing July Fourth as the Go-Live Date of CueCast Console File Conversion Service

BOULDER, COLORADO, July 2, 2012 — Zeehi, an entertainment technology company dedicated to developing solutions to improve the workflow of global entertainment production professionals everywhere, announces that July Fourth is the Go-Live date for their CueCast Digital Mixing Console User File Conversion Service. The announcement was made by Danny Abelson, Zeehi Co-Founder. CueCast provides front-of-house and monitor engineers, sound reinforcement companies, broadcasters, performing arts facilities and production managers the ability to quickly and easily convert “show files” that contain user settings between different digital audio mixing console formats.

“We’re calling this Fourth of July ‘Show File Independence Day,’” noted Abelson. “For the first time ever, operators of digital audio mixing consoles can transfer their user settings between mixing consoles, offering a degree of independence never before available but always desired by the community. We just couldn’t resist using the holiday as the official launch date. We’re passionate about providing solutions to the user community, and our team has toiled for over a year to develop a service intended to help mixers everywhere enjoy more flexibility and independence.”

This initial release of CueCast converts the most commonly used features and functions stored in show files, including bussing, sub-group assigns, control group assigns, routing, labeling, mutes and mute groups, EQ and dynamic in/out settings, aux. send on/off/and assigns, and effects and matrix on/off and assigns. The current iteration of CueCast supports file conversion between the Avid Venue, DiGiCo SD8 and SD10 and Yamaha PM5D platforms. Future releases will support additional console formats, and will provide conversion of variable settings, snapshots, and many other features.

The web-based service solves a fundamental challenge: how to take user settings from one mixing console to another without the time-consuming headache of entering those settings manually, according to Abelson, a thirty year veteran of the pro audio community. “We first announced CueCast at the InfoComm show in Las Vegas last month. Everyone we demoed for lauded our innovation.” Abelson noted. “We promised a release date in early July, and we’re meeting that commitment. We have been extensive in our pre-release testing, with additional Beta testing performed by a number of experienced outside engineers. Fortunately that process has been going well, to the point where we feel we are ready to offer CueCast to the user community.”

New customers will be provided with a 30-day no-risk free trial opportunity to try out the new service. Users will be credited with two free conversions when they sign up, valid for 30 days from sign up. Abelson continued, “We want everyone to feel comfortable with file conversion. CueCast is breaking new ground, and engineers will not believe how cool it is until they try it. Seeing their settings instantly load on a different desk, and the time it saves them compared to manual entry, is going to makes us a lot of friends. We anticipate that there will be a few bugs along the way. This is a very complicated process. As in all new software applications, the users will need a bit of patience, and we will need them to tell us if we have something wrong. By providing our initial users with two free conversions, we feel we can give our customers the opportunity to try us out, with no risk, and feel confident in the conversions before committing to purchases. We’re confident the flexibility and independence CueCast provides engineers will become a welcome and relied-upon solution.”

Based on the company’s popular SheetBlok™ construction-grade sound barrier product, SheetBlok-AF is a thin, dense isolator with a Class A fire-rated PVC laminate on its surface for a finished look. It is intended as a solution for improved sound isolation between adjacent spaces in the retrofit market where aesthetic appearance is important, but invasive construction and demolition are impossible. With an STC rating of 27 or greater, SheetBlok-AF is at least 6dB more effective than solid lead at stopping the transmission of sound. It acts as a thin, dense sound barrier layer in wall, ceiling and floor systems and is most effective when used as one component of a multi-layered construction scheme, as described in Auralex’s widely respected Acoustics101™ publication.

SheetBlok-AF has been designed with consideration for the contractor/system integrator who is doing either retrofit or new construction. SheetBlok-AF can be implemented in offices, apartments, studios, home theaters and anywhere an increase in sound isolation is desired. No wall construction (or reconstruction) is necessary, and SheetBlok-AF is fully paintable to coordinate with any decor.

SheetBlok-AF will be supplied in 4’x10’ sheets that can be trimmed to fit with a utility knife or metal shears. A Brief History of Lowell Manufacturing

— A retrospective look at Lowell Manufacturing’s 65 years of innovation —

PACIFIC, MO, June 26, 2012 — Lowell Manufacturing Company was founded in 1947 by Ben and Dorothy Lowell at a time of flourishing entrepreneurship in the post-war United States. The idea of sound from the ceiling was a novel idea then, and Mr. Lowell was awarded the first design patents for spun aluminum baffles that formed the nucleus of his product line. In the early years, Lowell Manufacturing occupied the second floor of a modest two story brick building in the city of St. Louis. The company remained in this location until 1954 when a move was made to a new facility in Maplewood, Missouri, providing the additional room to expand the manufacturing area and to house a growing product line. The 1950s saw many new design patents awarded to the company, and the introduction in 1958 of a new line of electronic equipment cabinets under the brand name Lowell Metal Works.

In 1960 the company expanded again, adding a new building to manufacture prototypes and custom metal products. In January of 1961, Lowell introduced the world’s first plastic molded speaker grille to supplement its line of metal baffles and enclosures. Two additional design patents for speaker baffles were also awarded during the decade of the 1960s.

During the 1970s and 1980s the company further expanded the audio product line, increasing its offering of backboxes for example, to include large cubic volume enclosures for use in convention centers, airports and performing arts centers. During this time, and in response to the growing popularity of sound masking systems in open office environments, Lowell was in a unique position as a manufacturer of backboxes and grilles to package these components into sound masking speakers for ceiling plenum areas. In August of 1977, John Lowell, current President and CEO, joined the company in the sales and marketing department, eventually becoming sales manager in 1985. In May of 1980, Wilhelm R. Lowell joined the company in sales, eventually moving into operations and new product development.

In 1992, Lowell again expanded its manufacturing facility into a new state-of-the-art building in Pacific, Missouri, 40 miles southwest of St. Louis, housing advanced fabrication and powder coat painting equipment capable of producing a level of quality never before seen in the industry, which is the hallmark of the company today. These advances led to the introduction of a new line of equipment racks, cabinets and rack accessories that continues to expand into new market opportunities. A design patent for a key-actuated volume control was awarded in October of 1991.

In the first decade of the new millennium, Lowell engineers designed a wide array of AC products ranging from advanced surge suppression and remote power control to power sequencing, along with its latest creation of Powerstac, a modular power product with a vast library of power modules designed and built to consultant or customer specifications. In October 2006, Lowell was granted a design patent, one of three it would eventually earn, for its Lay-In Tile Speaker System. In September of 2008, Tom Lowell joined his other two brothers in the company, bringing with him a background in distribution sales. In November of 2010, Lowell was awarded a patent for its Universal Horn Speaker.

For 65 years Lowell Manufacturing Company has gained a reputation for premium quality products that offer labor saving solutions for their customers. The three Lowell brothers continue to add their mark to the rich history and legacy of the company founded by their parents, manufacturing products in the USA, and supporting the American worker.
