Audio-Technica and Celebrated Artists Support Music Education

— Nine scholarships/donations honor A-T’s 50th anniversary —

Audio-Technica, a leading innovator in transducer technology, officially kicked off its 50th Anniversary Year in the U.S. with a special gala event held January 19, 2012, during the Winter NAMM Show in Anaheim, California. The event featured an all-star music revue produced by legendary GRAMMY® Award-winning producer Phil Ramone. Among the featured all-star cast of performers were saxophonist and longtime Audio-Technica endorser Mindi Abair, R&B/jazz vocalist Patti Austin, new age/adult-contemporary superstar and Audio-Technica endorser Jim Brickman, smooth jazz saxophonist Dave Koz, vocalist Monica Mancini, legendary trumpeter/pianist/composer Arturo Sandoval, gospel/R&B music legend BeBe Winans and Canadian jazz-pop vocalist Nikki Yanofsky. In commemoration of the event, all eight performers have decided to donate their performance honoraria to different music education programs and institutions, helping promote the importance of music education and assisting students in their pursuits.

Greg Pinto, Audio-Technica U.S. Vice President of Marketing and Consumer Sales, stated, “It was thrilling to have Phil Ramone produce the concert, and to have these eight world-class artists perform at our anniversary celebration in Anaheim marking ‘50 Years of Passionate Listening,’ and it is a special honor that they are donating these funds toward music education, a cause that is very near to the hearts of the A-T family.”

Phil Ramone donated his honorarium to The Salvation Army’s Phil Ramone Orchestra for Children. Abair has decided to donate to the Berklee College of Music Five-Week Summer Performance Program, creating the Mindi Abair/Audio-Technica Berklee Five-Week Summer Performance Scholarship. Austin is also donating her honorarium to the Berklee College of Music. Brickman is giving to his alma mater Cleveland Institute of Music (CIM), creating the Jim Brickman/Audio-Technica Scholarship. Koz is proud to donate to the GRAMMY Camp® (held at and in partnership with the USC Thornton School of Music), creating the Dave Koz/Audio-Technica GRAMMY Camp Scholarship. Mancini selected The Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation, thereby creating the Monica Mancini/Audio-Technica Donation for Music Education. Sandoval chose the Young Musicians’ Camp at the University of Miami Frost School of Music, creating the Arturo Sandoval/Audio-Technica Scholarship for the Young Musicians’ Camp. Winans is donating to Juilliard’s Summer Jazz Workshops, creating the BeBe Winans/Audio-Technica Scholarship. Yanofsky has selected the Schulich School of Music and its Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in Music Media and Technology (CIRMMT) at McGill University, creating the Nikki Yanofsky/Audio-Technica Scholarship.

Audio-Technica endorser Abair stated, “Audio-Technica has been helping me achieve my sound for more than 18 years on the road and in the studio. I was honored to play for their 50th Anniversary and even more honored to give back with a scholarship to Berklee’s five-week program. I grew up musically and personally while getting my degree at Berklee. I was encouraged to be an individual there and create my own musical vision. That’s priceless. I couldn’t be happier to pass that gift along to another individual.”

Beverly Tryon, Director, Corporate and Foundation Relations, Berklee College of Music, remarks, “We are very grateful to Mindi Abair for selecting her alma mater to receive this generous scholarship support, and to Audio-Technica for making it possible. This scholarship will allow a deserving young person to participate in this life-changing summer experience at Berklee.”

Fellow A-T endorser Brickman stated, “I want to express my thanks to Audio-Technica for the opportunity to create the Jim Brickman/Audio-Technica Scholarship at the Cleveland Institute of Music. CIM is the school where I found my sound. I think it’s important to cultivate musicianship, and their teachers do just that. My hope is that through scholarship efforts like this one, it will open doors and further the music education of another aspiring pianist.”

Westlake Village, CA (April 18, 2012) – In the first quarter of 2012, Guitar Center expanded operations at two of its stores – Highland Park, Illinois, and Tucson, Arizona – by adding Guitar Center Studios, an in-house, state-of-the-art lesson facility, which will create unrivaled opportunities for area musicians of all ages and skill levels. Guitar Center Studios provides music lessons from beginner to advanced featuring certified instructors teaching world-class curriculum as well as one-on-one courses on Pro Tools, Logic Pro and GarageBand. Lowell Hosts Sales Reps at Missouri Headquarters

PACIFIC, MO, March 26, 2012 — Lowell Manufacturing Company, a U.S. manufacturer of professional AV Products for more than 60 years, recently invited several of its newly appointed sales reps to its headquarters in Pacific, Missouri, for two days of product training, facility tours and brainstorming sessions. Aside from in-depth demonstrations of Lowell’s latest rack, power and audio products, the sessions reinforced Lowell’s company philosophies and what sets them apart from competitors. In the end, the reps left with not only a better understanding of Lowell’s key products, but also a keener sense of branding and the Lowell perspective.

The training sessions began as the reps gathered at Lowell’s headquarters for a meet-and-greet and discussion on the industry-at-large with John Lowell; Thomas Lowell, Residential Sales Manager; and Jeff Garstick, National Sales Manager. The sessions continued the following morning with a presentation of Lowell’s rackmount power and surge suppression products. After lunch, all were invited to tour the Lowell plant, where plant manager Daryl Schoolfield demonstrated Lowell’s advanced manufacturing/production capabilities. Following that was an educational session on Lowell’s rack products and dedicated rack accessories. Thursday morning featured a multimedia and software presentation including product videos and Lowell’s new online “Customer Center,” which allows Lowell dealers to place or review orders for their account 24 hours a day. Thursday afternoon involved presentations on Lowell’s acoustic/speaker products, with time spent in the acoustic lab and a double-blind speaker comparison.

“I learned so much,” said Joshua Radin, Pro Audio Specialist for New York- and New Jersey-based BMG-Hudson Sales & Marketing. “I was already a fan of Lowell’s racks and surge protection products, but when we got into specific details of features and compared these products to the competition, there was just no comparison – Lowell is the clear winner. We took part in a blind comparison test with Lowell 12-inch speakers versus two other brands, and we were pleased to find out that we had rated the Lowell speakers the highest. But maybe more important than those things, we got a chance to strengthen our relationships with the Lowell team, and it’s really no surprise that we all left feeling proud to be part of the Lowell family. Carl Tatz Design’s PhantomFocus™ System Goes to School

— Personal studio design guru Carl Tatz shares his design secrets and acclaimed PhantomFocus™ System expertise with students and staff at Berklee College of Music and SAE Nashville, as well as contributing a chapter to Bobby Owsinski’s new tome The Studio Builder’s Handbook —

Nashville, TN: “Carl Tatz has used his previous experience as a studio owner to become not only one of the most forward-looking studio designers today, but an innovator in monitoring technology as well. His PhantomFocus™ System (PFS) monitor tuning protocol is quickly becoming the standard by which all others are measured,” quotes bestselling author and music/technology advisor Bobby Owsinski, who has dedicated an entire chapter in his latest textbook, The Studio Builder’s Handbook, based on a point that Carl Tatz, noted personal studio designer and creator of the PFS, drives home with knowledgeable stealth and experience: “There is nothing more important in a control room than the accuracy of your monitoring.”

Tatz also comments about his recent invitations to lecture at the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts, and the Nashville, Tennessee branch of SAE: “I try to give them something practical they can take with them and use right away in their own home studios.”
