Jünger Audio’s IBC 2014 Line Up Delivers Perfect Voice Recording

At IBC 2014 (10.A49), dynamics processing specialist Jünger Audio will show its D*AP4 VAP Voice Processor – a unique unit that is designed to make life easier for engineers working in radio stations, TV production voice-over studios and feature film ADR facilities.

What makes this processor so special is the inclusion of Jünger Audio’s proprietary Spectral Signature™ dynamic EQ – a totally new creative tool that offers automatic and dynamic EQ control to balance spectral differences in real-time. By analyzing incoming audio and comparing its spectrum with individually predetermined voice ‘fingerprints’, this clever unit can automatically apply dynamic EQ corrections to give a consistent sound.

For people working in TV voice over and feature film ADR, this facility is a Godsend because it allows them to deal with any changes in a performer’s voice. The latest version of Symetrix’ SymNet Composer software allows one platform to configure select products enabled with Audinate’s Dante networking technology from all three manufacturers.

AMSTERDAM (NL) / ISE 2014 — (February 4 2014): In a significant development for users of Audinate’s Dante media networking technology, Symetrix has announced that the latest version of its popular SymNet Composer software will enable complete configuration of select Dante-enabled Symetrix, Attero Tech and Stewart Audio products.

Settings affecting I/O levels, routing and more will be defined with SymNet Composer 2.0, which gives customers the ability to consolidate operations on a single platform where three or more were previously required.

“As a result of the release, integrators will no longer need separate software packages for each manufacturer’s product as well as Dante Controller,” comments Trent Wagner, Senior Product Manager at Symetrix. “Supported Dante-enabled products will appear side-by-side with Symetrix SymNet products in the Composer software and can be managed or configured identically to Symetrix products. Professionals who have used our Composer before will have no learning curve.”

Symetrix Maintaining Its Edge in DSP at ISE 2014

SEATTLE, US: Symetrix, the leading developer of innovative DSP solutions, has announced that it will return to Integrated Systems Europe (4-6 February 2014, Amsterdam RAI) for the seventh consecutive year, co-exhibiting on the stand of Dutch distributor Iemke Roos with a selection of its most popular solutions for installed applications.

Jünger Audio Redefines Audio Processing at IBC 2013

Dynamics specialist Jünger Audio will use the IBC 2013 platform (Hall 10, Stand A49) to announce a new direction of creating solution based packages for its entire product range – one that is designed to make it much easier for customers to identify the exact processing solution they are looking for.

“As there is now a trend among some of our customers to use products like the T*AP (Television Audio Processor) for applications such as radio or PA, we decided to separate processing hardware from the feature set,” says Jünger Audio’s Managing Director Peter Pörs. “This change acknowledges the way in which many of our customers are working and allows Jünger Audio’s highly recognized functionality packages previously known as T*AP and M*AP to live on in common hardware.”

The new strategy will see Jünger Audio’s key hardware products marketed as universal processing platforms, with each one capable of handling transcoding and routing, as well as audio processing, and offering various ways of control including through automation or third party equipment. Instead of specific product names such as T*AP, M*AP and V*AP, Jünger Audio will now use these names to identify application packages. Once customers have chosen a processor with the right channel count and specified the application area they want to address (radio, TV, production, post production etc.), Jünger Audio will deliver the relevant software package with the audio processor box of choice to create a solution that exactly matches the customer’s needs.

“By using a universal processing platform, the new modularity of our product range will get as close as possible to each customer’s workflow,” Peter Pörs says. “Managing audio loudness with our renowned non-destructive Level Magic™ algorithm will be one of many features, along with 3G, HD and SD SDI embedded audio handling and high quality limiters, compressors, delays and equalisers. This modularity concept will also allow for specific coding hardware to decode, encode or transcode Dolby®-E, Dolby®-D (AC-3) and Dolby® Digital plus (E-AC-3), as well as HE-AAC formats.”

Pörs adds that the proliferation of distribution formats has made audio quality control during production more important than ever.

“In the past it might have been sufficient to monitor only the main mix, ignoring all transport coding and metadata implications,” he says. “But with all the simulcast formats in use today, the production team needs to simulate the home listening experience by real time metadata emulation. Adding this functionality to a hardware based monitoring controller, combined with loudness measurement and logging features, is the feature set of our QC and production monitoring solution M*AP.

“We are clearly refocusing on production and the fantastic first feedback we have received for our new voice processor V*AP evidently signals that we’re on the right track with our range of products. The V*AP offers all the processing arsenal you need for highest quality voice processing including mic preamps, compressors, expanders, limiters, and voice optimized equalizers. The V*AP also includes a voice optimized version of Spectral Signature, a process using individual spectral reference footprints as a real-time comparison reference for incoming audio, adding filtering only if it is necessary to generate spectral consistency.”

Pörs adds that the company’s extensive product range will now include a plug-in version of Level Magic™ in native plugin formats (VST, RTAS, AU, AAX, Audiosuite, etc.) for MAC and PC, 32- and 64-bit systems. This will be launched at IBC 2013.

Trew Audio Turns to DPA Microphones for AOL’s HuffPost Live

Sound Installation and Services Company Specifies DPA 4061 Lavalier Mics for the Online News Outlet’s LA Studio

LOS ANGELES, JUNE 18, 2013 – When AOL Productions’ HuffPost Live, an online video streaming network affiliated with the Huffington Post news outlet, sought to outfit its Beverly Hills studio with a permanent set of audio equipment, it turned to Trew Audio Los Angeles, to specify the gear. As audio is one of the most important elements of any webcast, Trew Audio, a longtime provider of sound equipment sales, rentals and services for AOL Productions, suggested DPA Microphones’ 4061 Lavalier Microphone. Used daily by the talent and guests who appear on the Website, the microphones provide clarity, flexibility and reliability.

HuffPost Live is broadcast from two studios, one in Los Angeles and the other in New York. Originally, the network operated mostly out of its New York location, only using the Beverly Hills studio sporadically. For the occasions when shows were aired from Los Angeles, AOL Productions rented equipment from Trew Audio. As the popularity of its Los Angeles shows grew, so too did HuffPost Live’s need for a permanent arrangement of gear at the Beverly Hills studio. Already familiar with the quality of DPA Microphones, and on suggestion from Trew Audio, the network purchased eight DPA 4061 microphones for its audio setup.

Prism Sound Ships Lyra – A New Audio Interface For The Studio Producer, Musician and DJ Market

The good things in life are always worth waiting for and after months of anticipation internationally renowned British manufacturer Prism Sound has finally shipped the first Lyra audio interfaces to its worldwide dealer network.

“We were hoping to ship Lyra earlier in the year but due to some manufacturing issues this was delayed until now,” says Prism Sound’s Sales and Marketing director Graham Boswell. “Testing Lyra on all of the software and hardware platforms took longer than anticipated, but now we have commenced deliveries I am confident that this new family of audio interfaces will delight all audio content producers including musicians, composers, project studio owners, DJs and re-mixers.”

Lyra, which made its debut at the 2012 AES Convention in San Francisco, brings to an even wider audience Prism Sound’s high performance audio converter technology. This technology is used in the world’s leading recording facilities by recording artists and for blockbuster movie soundtracks such as Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit. Based on the award-winning and critically acclaimed Orpheus interface, Lyra allows music recording professionals to access the power and sophistication of the Orpheus audio path and clock circuitry, but in a smaller package and at a much more affordable price point.

Lyra connects seamlessly with both Macs and PCs via a simple USB interface, making it ideal for recording professionals who don’t need eight channels of analogue I/O.

Prism Sound plans to launch a number of different variants of Lyra and has started the ball rolling with Lyra 1 and Lyra 2. Both incorporate new ARM Cortex processor design offering class-compliant USB interfacing, plus DSP and a low latency ‘console-quality’ digital mixer for foldback monitoring. Both products also have optical SPDIF capability and Lyra 2 also supports ADAT.

Lyra 1, which retails in the UK at £1,349 plus VAT, will be of particular interest to the musician and project studio market. This unit offers two analogue input channels – one for instrument/line and one for mic/line – plus two DA output channels and optical-only digital I/O. With Lyra 1, musicians can connect a guitar and a microphone through the input channels, plug into their software mixer via a simple USB connection and start laying down basic tracks in a matter of minutes.

Lyra 2, which retails in the UK at £1,849 plus VAT, takes the concept a little further by offering two AD input channels with switchable microphone, instrument or line input modes and four DA output channels. Both optical-only digital I/O and copper S/PDIF are available on this version of Lyra, which also offers wordclock In/Out enabling synchronization with other digital devices.

Both products are ergonomically designed to look as good as they sound. The front panel has a master volume control assignable to selected output channels, while the unit’s small size – just 11 inches wide – makes it very easy to transport for musicians, producers and DJs on the road. For studio use, Prism Sound can supply dedicated rack mounts as an extra.

“We know there is a market for Lyra because our customers have been demanding this product ever since we launched Orpheus,” Graham Boswell adds. “However, we are very protective of our reputation for delivering the highest possible audio quality so we were not going to bring any product to market until we were sure that it could live up to our exacting specifications. Lyra does just that, and we are very proud to introduce it.”
