Sound Devices Offers Enhanced Recording and File Transfer Options for PIX 260i Users

Latest Firmware Update, Version 1.02, Now Available for Free Download

LOS ANGELES, MAY 15, 2013 — In an effort to continue to streamline workflows for production and post-production environments with its rack-mounted PIX 260i Production Video Recorder, Sound Devices, experts in portable audio and video products for field production, now offers expanded audio and video recording and file transfer capabilities with its newest firmware update, Version 1.02. Available as a free download to all PIX 260i users, this latest version will be highlighted at Cine Gear 2013 (Booth 94).

With Version 1.02, all drives are now formatted as exFAT instead of UDF. While this new drive formatting is available, it is still possible for PIX 260i users to record and play back from UDF drives for compatibility with the PIX 220i and PIX 240i. Users have the ability to set each PIX 260i drive independently to Ethernet File Transfer (Network) mode. This offers the convenience of transferring files over a network while the PIX 260i records new data. Drives will also automatically switch to the Ethernet File Transfer mode when full. In addition, the end user can now read and write data to PIX 260i drives over Ethernet. The update also enables the PIX 260i to provide users with both simultaneous recording to multiple drives or sequential mode, recording to the next successive drive as drives become full. A 10-second (maximum) pre-record buffer for the audio-only mode has also been added.

Based on Sound Devices’ PIX 240i portable audio/video recorder, PIX 260i is a rack-mounted, file-based audio/video recorder that seamlessly replaces tape-based video decks in production and post-production environments. PIX 260i offers 32 tracks of audio record and playback as well as control functionality from browser-capable computers and tablets. PIX 260i offers the features and tools that production companies and broadcasters require to migrate to file-based recording and playback capabilities. It records QuickTime files in either Apple ProRes or Avid DNxHD video formats. Files recorded in these intra-frame codecs are ready for editing directly from the recorder in common editing environments, such as Avid, Final Cut Pro, and Adobe Premiere, eliminating time-consuming transferring and transcoding. For color-critical applications, the PIX 260i supports Apple ProRes 4444 through its 12-bit, 4:4:4 3G-SDI I/O. Users can also play out files from the PIX 260i for real-time applications.

GeoBroadcast Solutions Names Jampro Antennas as Exclusive Supplier for MaxxCasting, ZoneCasting Networks

Exceptional antenna directivity supports maximized and targeted signal delivery across single-frequency FM radio transmission networks

CHICAGO, May 14, 2013 — Terrestrial radio innovators GeoBroadcast Solutions (GBS) announce Jampro Antennas as a technology partner to advance its vision of helping radio broadcasters maximize over-the-air signals and grow revenues.

Jampro joins Harris Broadcast as exclusive technology suppliers for GBS MaxxCasting and ZoneCasting networks. MaxxCasting expands FM signal coverage areas, allowing broadcasters to take full advantage of their FCC-allotted spectrum. ZoneCasting, pending FCC approval, brings hyper-localization to radio through targeted over-the-air content delivery.

DPA Microphones Opens A New Office In Hong Kong

Following a record year for sales in the Asia and Pacific regions, DPA Microphones is consolidating its success by opening a new regional office in Hong Kong.

Headed by Ken Kimura, DPA’s general manager for the APAC region, the new office signals DPA’s commitment to its partners and customers by acting as a hub for sales, marketing and after-sales service. Jampro Antennas Awarded Contract by MediaCorp for Turnkey System Serving Singapore & Malay Peninsula

Sacramento, CA — Jampro Antennas of Sacramento, California has been awarded a major broadcast equipment contract by MediaCorp, Singapore. Jampro will provide a complete system comprised of a Jampro model JUHD broadband UHF panel antenna and an extremely complex switching and patching matrix to integrate MediaCorp’s three main towers that serve Singapore and the Malay Peninsula.

In making the announcement, Alex M. Perchevitch, Jampro’s president said, “We are very pleased and proud to be working with Singapore’s leading media organization on their critical infrastructure. Fortunately, our extensive product line covers all of the necessary components. Moreover, we can ensure high performance because we are handling the entire installation in Bukit Batok, the primary Broadcast Site for Singapore and one of the most critical sites for Singapore, Malay Peninsula, and Indonesian Archipelago.”

Jampro will provide a broadband UHF panel antenna with dual runs of High power transmission line. A dual chain digital UHF combiner, comprising 12 Constant Impedance modules and cross-site patching matrix system, which allows transmission on different antennas/towers. Included in the order is a massive 48-panel JUHD UHF panel antenna, which can handle multiple channels DVB-T/H or analog, PAL signals on UHF bands IV and V.

“We build our JUHD antennas with stainless steel and aluminum,” added Perchevitch. “That gives MediaCorp long term value and durable performance in their tropical rainforest climate.”

To combine signals MediaCorp specified Jampro model DVB-T/T2 UHF constant impedance mask filter / combining modules. They provide outstanding low-power performance in a compact design, particularly suited to MediaCorp’s equipment space limitations.

RTW Unveils Moving Coil Software for TM3 at NAB 2013

Loudness Moving Coil Instrument Now Available

LAS VEGAS, APRIL 10, 2013 — RTW, a leading vendor of visual audio meters and monitoring devices for professional broadcast, production, post production and quality control, is proud to unveil the new TM3-SWMC Software for its TM3 series of TouchMonitors at the 2013 NAB Show (Booth C1844). This new software license, available as an add-on option, incorporates a moving coil emulation display.

This license expands the functionality of the TM3 TouchMonitor series, which includes the TM3 and TM3-3G, with PPM, VU and the new loudness moving coil instruments. The display can be chosen with vertical or horizontal orientation, numeric level information and peak indicators. Single-, double- and stereo-channel, instruments are now available. For stereo groups with PPM moving coil mode, additional M/S moving coil emulation is selectable. As with all instruments in the TouchMonitor series products, the user can individually define the instrument size and positioning on the screen to meet his specific application needs.

RTW’s TM3 includes features of the larger TM7 and TM9 versions in a compact size. Users can control it with a touch-sensitive display. Clear-Com Debuts Latest Matrix Frame for Eclipse HX Range at Prolight + Sound 2013

New HX-Delta Frame Offers High Performance Across Multiple Performance Spaces

FRANKFURT, APRIL 10, 2013 Clear-Com®, a global leader in critical voice communications systems, will debut the newest addition to its line of Eclipse HX Digital Matrix Systems, the Eclipse HX-Delta Matrix Frame, at Prolight + Sound 2013 (Hall 8.0, Stand L51). The Eclipse HX-Delta offers the connectivity and high capacity of a larger matrix system in a 3RU frame, giving users more flexible installation options.

The cost-effective and compact Eclipse HX-Delta is optimal for installation across several areas of a large performance space or concert venue. It provides two CPU cards for redundant system control, with the option of up to four varied I/O frame cards and up to three interface modules in a 3RU frame. Instead of installing large system frames in just one location, the Eclipse HX-Delta gives users the option of building a distributed matrix system. Clear-Com and BroaMan Host Joint Demonstrations of Real World Broadcast Signal Distribution at the 2013 NAB Show

Companies Showcase Digital Distribution of Audio, HD Video, Data and Intercom over Fiber

LAS VEGAS, APRIL 10, 2013 – Clear-Com® (Booth C8008), a global leader in critical voice communication systems is highlighting its expanded partnership with fiber network specialists, Optocore and BroaMan (Booth C8443) at the 2013 NAB Show. The companies are utilizing Optocore technology for integrated real-time transport, routing, conversion and management of professional video, audio and data. Together, Clear-Com, Optocore and BroaMan provide turnkey integrated real-time solutions for studios, mobile productions and stadiums.

“At this year’s NAB, we’re looking to illustrate how easy it is for professional broadcasters handling a large remote event to set up a video, audio, communications and data backbone quickly and efficiently utilizing Clear-Com and BroaMan/Optocore solutions,” says Bob Boster, President of Clear-Com. “We are happy to partner with BroaMan once again to bring further connectivity options to our users.”

To demonstrate the partnership, Clear-Com and BroaMan have connected their booths via fiber-optic cable. Clear-Com has designed its NAB exhibit this year to mimic real world broadcast applications. In addition, two of the kiosks will represent a remote correspondent tied to a mobile production truck. All four kiosks are linked with the Optocore and BroaMan real-time fiber solutions for audio, HD video, intercom and data. To create a live remote production, two strands of fiber will connect the Clear-Com booth to the BroaMan booth. Clear-Com will be simulating an announce/commentary application at the BroaMan booth by feeding intercom and IFB to the talent via Optocore and BroaMan, as well as transporting HD video, on-air talent and talkback from the announce station to all of the kiosks within the Clear-Com booth.

Sound Devices Introduces PIX 240i KIT at the 2013 NAB Show

Convenient Kit Includes All Necessary Equipment for Professional Video Production

LAS VEGAS, APRIL 9, 2013 — Sound Devices, experts in portable audio and video products for field production, unveils its PIX 240i KIT, an all-inclusive kit that provides all the equipment needed to operate the PIX 240i in professional video production applications, at the 2013 NAB Show (Booth C2849).

Sound Devices’ PIX 240i KIT includes a PIX 240i, power supply (XL-WPH3), two batteries (XL-B2), two drives (includes PIX-CADDY with 240 GB SSD drives), sun hood (PIX-HOOD), articulating mount (PIX-ARM), HDMI and SDI interconnection cables, and a rugged carry-case (PIX-HC1). An ideal, all-in-one solution for video production professionals on the go, Sound Devices new PIX 240i KIT comes with all the necessary equipment needed on location or on-set, conveniently housed in a portable carrying case.

With the latest revision of firmware, version 3.01, PIX 240i users now have the ability to record into Apple ProRes 4444, which offers impressive quality with 4:4:4 sources and workflows involving alpha channel transparency. With its 12-bit, 3G-SDI 4:4:4 capability, the PIX 240i can record 330-Mbps Apple ProRes 4444 files that are perceptually indistinguishable from the original source material. Popular cameras with 4:4:4-capable outputs include the ARRI ALEXA, Canon C500 and Sony F3. Additional features available in Sound Devices’ latest v3.01 firmware update include time-code and recording status displays on the SDI and HDMI outputs, up to 500 ms of audio delay to compensate for multi-device picture delay and selectable 4:4:4 or 4:2:2 video output independent from the source material.

Users can connect PIX 240i to cameras with HD-SDI, 3G-SDI or HDMI and record directly to QuickTime using a range of different Apple ProRes or Avid DNxHD codecs, including Apple ProRes 4444. Since PIX recorders use ProRes and DNxHD, files recorded in the field can be used directly in post production, making for simpler, faster workflows.

The PIX 240i’s five-inch, high-performance, IPS-based LCD display is an accurate field monitor, providing users with immediate confirmation of framing, exposure, focus, audio metering and setup menu selections. It offers excellent color accuracy and contrast, great off-axis visibility and accurate motion tracking.

The built-in hardware scaler and frame-rate converter allows PIX to output and record material at different resolutions and frame rates than supported by the camera. Conversion between HD and SD, with and without anamorphic conversion, is available.

The audio circuitry of the PIX recorders is based on Sound Devices’ award-winning 7-Series digital audio recorders. The low-noise (-128 dBu EIN), high-headroom, high-bandwidth inputs are mic/line switchable and include limiters, high-pass filters and phantom power.
