Recording Academy Producers and Engineers Wing Presents Music Production Advocacy Event on Capitol Hill

GRAMMYs on the Hill Event Titled “On The Record” Brings GRAMMY-Winning Producers and Members of Congress Together to Discuss Music Industry Issues

SANTA MONICA, Calif. (July 29, 2011) — On Tuesday, July 26, in a first-of-its-kind event, The Recording Academy® (www.grammy.com) and its Producers & Engineers Wing brought music producers together with Congressional leaders on Capitol Hill for a day that included meetings, a panel discussion and musical demonstrations. The event addressed important industry issues while also providing insight into the essential role that producers and engineers play in the music recording process. The day’s activities were part of The Academy’s DC-based GRAMMYs on the Hill initiative.

The broad-based delegation of producers included Adam Anders (Glee), Ray Benson (Asleep at the Wheel, Willie Nelson, Suzy Boguss), Scott Hendricks (Blake Shelton, Brooks & Dunn, Alan Jackson), Johnny K. (3 Doors Down, Disturbed, Staind), David Kahne (Bangles, Paul McCartney, Regina Spektor) and Matt Serletic (Santana/Rob Thomas, Matchbox Twenty, Collective Soul) and met with a cross-section of Congressional leadership including Rep. Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.) and Rep. Howard Coble (R-N.C.), Chair and Vice Chair, respectively of the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Intellectual Property, Competition and the Internet. The group also met with Rep. Howard Berman (D-Calif.), Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn), House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), Rep. John Conyers (D-Mich.) and Rep. Joe Crowley (D-N.Y.). Discussions focused on intellectual property, performance rights, the economic and cultural importance of music, and the changing landscape of the recording industry. more

Sennheiser Awards Grand Prize of HearIAm Campaign to Boston-Based ‘String Rock’ Quintet, Darlingside

AES Executive Director Roger Furness To Step Down

Search Committee To Be Formed

NEW YORK: Jim Kaiser, President of the Audio Engineering Society has announced that Roger Furness, AES Executive Director since 1994, will step down from his position at the end of 2011. An AES member since 1975, Mr. Furness has served as Section Chair, Vice President AES Europe and as AES President. To ensure continuity in all aspects of the AES organization, the Executive Committee has asked him to remain as Executive Director Emeritus throughout 2012.

“My seventeen years as AES Executive Director have been an exhilarating and deeply gratifying experience,” Furness said. “I have thoroughly enjoyed collaborating with Convention Committees on nearly 40 major events in the United States and throughout Europe. I have also been privileged to work with AES members around the world on hundreds of Conferences, Workshops and internal events. I take great pride in these accomplishments and in having guided the AES through the particularly difficult times experienced by the entire professional audio industry over the past decade. I look forward to continuing to contribute my time and energy to this indispensable organization in future years.” more

Prism Media Products Ltd Is Presented With A Queen’s Award for Enterprise

On Friday, 15 July 2011, Prism Media Products Limited, whose brands include Prism Sound, SADiE and Imerge, was presented with its Queen’s Award for Enterprise in the category of International Trade. The presentation was made by Mr. Hugh Duberly, Lord-Lieutenant of Cambridgeshire, and took place at the company’s headquarters in Stretham. Also present were Jim Paice, MP for South East Cambridgeshire and Mark Lloyd, Chief Executive of Cambridgeshire County Council.

Prism Sound Announces A Prestigious Order For Its New SADiE 6 Software

Following a comprehensive review of a range of potential solutions for craft editing, the BBC has renewed its commitment to SADiE by placing an order for 50 licenses for the recently released SADiE 6 editing software. These will be installed at BBC North and will be in use by August, 2011.

The broadcaster is streamlining the range of tools that it will support internally for its radio programme makers and has selected SADiE as the standard “Craft Editor” for audio to complement its radio production and playout automation systems.

SADiE is already well established at the Corporation, which has many hundreds of SADiE installations. Key to this success is the unique approach that SADiE has to audio editing and productivity, tailored to high-end radio production workflow. The new SADiE 6 software will primarily be used as a software-only application on the broadcaster’s desktop, but it can also be installed on existing SADiE 5 hardware as an upgrade. more

Prism Sound/SADiE Sponsors Live In Nairobi Conference

Prism Sound, the manufacturers of the world-leading SADiE craft editor, is sponsoring the Commonwealth Broadcasting Association conference ‘CBA: Live in Nairobi’ in Kenya. The conference is part of the ‘Digital East Africa’ project and will be hosted by the CBA at the Kenya National Museum in Nairobi from 20th-22nd June.

In addition to sponsoring the event, SADiE is sending Peter Nash and Peter Leslie Wild, two highly experienced BBC programme makers, to speak and present at the event. Both Peters will be presenting creative workshops in drama production, feature and documentary making for radio and podcasting.

Peter Nash is managing director of his own independent production company ‘Monty Funk Productions’, and has been a high-end features maker for BBC Radio 4 and Radio 3 since the mid 1990s. Peter Leslie Wild has been a senior producer for BBC Radio Drama for 16 years, winning a number of awards, and recently went freelance. He is also well-known for large-scale theatre productions, his training workshops at British universities and is now involved in a variety of podcasting projects. more
