Jünger Audio Redefines Audio Processing at IBC 2013

Dynamics specialist Jünger Audio will use the IBC 2013 platform (Hall 10, Stand A49) to announce a new direction of creating solution based packages for its entire product range – one that is designed to make it much easier for customers to identify the exact processing solution they are looking for.

“As there is now a trend among some of our customers to use products like the T*AP (Television Audio Processor) for applications such as radio or PA, we decided to separate processing hardware from the feature set,” says Jünger Audio’s Managing Director Peter Pörs. “This change acknowledges the way in which many of our customers are working and allows Jünger Audio’s highly recognized functionality packages previously known as T*AP and M*AP to live on in common hardware.”

The new strategy will see Jünger Audio’s key hardware products marketed as universal processing platforms, with each one capable of handling transcoding and routing, as well as audio processing, and offering various ways of control including through automation or third party equipment. Instead of specific product names such as T*AP, M*AP and V*AP, Jünger Audio will now use these names to identify application packages. Once customers have chosen a processor with the right channel count and specified the application area they want to address (radio, TV, production, post production etc.), Jünger Audio will deliver the relevant software package with the audio processor box of choice to create a solution that exactly matches the customer’s needs.

“By using a universal processing platform, the new modularity of our product range will get as close as possible to each customer’s workflow,” Peter Pörs says. “Managing audio loudness with our renowned non-destructive Level Magic™ algorithm will be one of many features, along with 3G, HD and SD SDI embedded audio handling and high quality limiters, compressors, delays and equalisers. This modularity concept will also allow for specific coding hardware to decode, encode or transcode Dolby®-E, Dolby®-D (AC-3) and Dolby® Digital plus (E-AC-3), as well as HE-AAC formats.”

Pörs adds that the proliferation of distribution formats has made audio quality control during production more important than ever.

“In the past it might have been sufficient to monitor only the main mix, ignoring all transport coding and metadata implications,” he says. “But with all the simulcast formats in use today, the production team needs to simulate the home listening experience by real time metadata emulation. Adding this functionality to a hardware based monitoring controller, combined with loudness measurement and logging features, is the feature set of our QC and production monitoring solution M*AP.

“We are clearly refocusing on production and the fantastic first feedback we have received for our new voice processor V*AP evidently signals that we’re on the right track with our range of products. The V*AP offers all the processing arsenal you need for highest quality voice processing including mic preamps, compressors, expanders, limiters, and voice optimized equalizers. The V*AP also includes a voice optimized version of Spectral Signature, a process using individual spectral reference footprints as a real-time comparison reference for incoming audio, adding filtering only if it is necessary to generate spectral consistency.”

Pörs adds that the company’s extensive product range will now include a plug-in version of Level Magic™ in native plugin formats (VST, RTAS, AU, AAX, Audiosuite, etc.) for MAC and PC, 32- and 64-bit systems. This will be launched at IBC 2013.

“For the first time ever it will be possible for production staff using equipment such as Pro Tools to control audio loudness using our Level Magic™ algorithm,” he says. The addition of a plug-in to our range means that, from production right though to transmission, broadcasters can use Level Magic™ processing throughout their entire production and broadcasting chain.”

Sound Devices Demonstrates 788T with Latest Firmware and Production Capabilities at SMPTE Australia 2013

SYDNEY, JULY 22, 2013 — Sound Devices, specialists in portable audio and video products for field production, will be on-site at The Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers biennial conference and exhibition, SMPTE13, demonstrating its latest solutions for content creators in the motion-imaging, sound and broadcast industries (John Barry Sales, Stand C29). The company will exhibit its flagship 788T and 788T-SSD digital audio recorders with the latest firmware update, Version 3.0.

With the influx of multi-tracking in the field and on set, the 788T has become the next-generation digital audio recorder for advanced sound mixers who require additional isolated tracks. It boasts eight full-featured inputs and records to up to 12 tracks. It accepts either microphone or line-level signals, provides 48-V phantom power for condenser microphones, offers peak limiters for microphone inputs and features fully adjustable high-pass filters—all in a compact package. Routing flexibility allows each input to be routed to left/right mixed tracks, isolated tracks or aux tracks.

Further positioning the 788T as one of the foremost solutions for today’s evolving production standards, Version 3.0 is a free download for all existing and new 788T users offering a 192-kHz sampling rate for up to four tracks (L through B) recording to one drive. It provides for scene, take, notes, false takes, circle and track name metadata to be synched between C-Linked 788Ts. Version 3 firmware also features digital input limiters for AES3 and AES42 inputs, perfect for digital microphones. Additional enhancements include a left/right tone identification mode with a shortcut to toggle the mode on or off, added user-customizable CL-9 encoder adjustments, which affect trim gain and EQ frequency, and the option to decode MS into LR MIX only and leave ISO tracks as un-decoded MS.

In addition, Version 3.0 offers a new timecode mode, “Free Run – Auto Output Mute.” This is the same as the “Free” run mode, but mutes the “Lemo” timecode output when stopped and can be used to roll external devices when the “Rec-Run” timecode is not suitable. In addition to overall faster drive formatting, the latest firmware features an upgraded external low-voltage threshold, now 11.3V, along with various overall system improvements and optimizations.

Broadcast applications cover many situations and different miking possibilities depending on requirements, taste and specifications. DK-Technologies Releases New LTC Engine for the PT5300 Master Sync Generator at IBC 2013

DK-Technologies is using IBC 2013 as the platform to release its latest LTC and 3G additions to the field proven PT5300 Master Sync Generator (Hall 8, Stand B60).

In master sync applications, the new LTC fallback function allows the PT5300 to align with the internal high precision clock – a feature that is of huge importance to users working in situations where GPS coverage is patchy or inadequate.

In slave sync applications the LTC engine enables the PT5300 to genlock to VITC time-code derived from the black-burst input.

The new LTC engine will be shipping as an integral part of the PT5300 by September 2013. The improved functions are available to existing PT5300 users as an upgrade module.

DK-Technologies has also announced that the PT5300 Master Sync Generator and its change-over companion product, the PT5211, will both be 3G compatible by the end of 2013.

Jünger Audio Unveils the V*AP Voice Processor To Asian Broadcasters

Dynamics specialist Jünger Audio will be showing its new V*AP two channel voice processor at Broadcast Asia 2013 (Booth 5E6-01). This will give broadcasters in the region their first opportunity to view a product that is specifically designed to make life easier for engineers working in radio stations and TV production voice-over studios.

V*AP, the latest addition to Jünger Audio’s award-winning *AP family of products, draws on the company’s extensive experience with previous Voice Processing devices such as its v-series, but adds new tools and algorithms to create a new, easier and more efficient approach to voice processing with no compromise in sound quality.

V*AP’s main task is to offer perfect control of microphone recordings. Jünger Audio has also included processing such as HP/LP filtering, dynamic section, full parametric EQ and de-essing. All of the V*AP functions can be easily set up by the audio engineer, making it hassle free for any journalist or reporter to use it. Jünger Audio has also provided a dedicated leveler combined with a voice over circuit to help auto-mix voice programs into loudness-based broadcasting on the fly. Using the optional SDI I/O card automated voice over for embedded audio becomes an attractive feature of the V*AP.

Available as either an insert into a mixing desk or as a stand-alone unit, V*AP offers interfaces that allow integration in existing environments via an AES insert. The unit can also be used with an optional analogue board that adds two high quality mic-preamps.

Another key feature of V*AP is the inclusion of Spectral Signature™, Jünger Audio’s automatic spectral sound management algorithm that dynamically controls spectral balance to create consistent voice recordings meeting a dedicated station sound. Spectral Signature™ can automatically analyze the recording of the voice to create a sound fingerprints that become the reference the algorithm matches to on all subsequent live recordings.

At Broadcast Asia 2013, Jünger Audio will also show its ground-breaking M*AP audio loudness processor, which combines an audio monitor controller and a loudness measurement device in one unit, thus providing comprehensive quality control and loudness monitoring for anyone working in a production or broadcast environment.

Designed for quality checking surround (5.1) and/or stereo programs, M*AP can be used for live monitoring and also to ensure compliance with today’s standards and regulations (ITU 1770-3, ATSC A/85 or EBU R128).

The unit comes with alarm signals that alert the operator when pre-set loudness thresholds are exceeded, and these signals can be delivered by simple GPOs and/or SNMP traps, which carry actual loudness values. Loudness measurements can be performed over a long run or over a fraction of a program, or both. These measurements can be triggered by automation systems via GPIs or via the network – or even manually by buttons of the X*AP remote panel.

Alongside loudness measurements, M*AP also offers functionality for acoustical QA. It has eight speaker outputs that allow for A/B checking of stereo compatibility of a surround downmix through alternative speakers, as well as via L/R front speakers.

Peter Pörs, Managing Director of Jünger Audio, says: “By incorporating 3G, HD and SD auto detection, M*AP gives users the option of dealing with all 16 channels of SDI embedded audio at the same time. This means that you can listen to one program while permanently logging the loudness of two (5.1 +2 mode) or four (4×2 mode) programs. It is also possible to send further embedded programs to M*AP’s AES outputs to feed a third party instrument for analyzing and/or display.”

For no extra cost, the M*AP’s SDI board acts as an embedder as well and comes with video delay to compensate for any kind of audio delay. This feature is ideal for those looking to maintain lip sync in QA suites or control rooms. M*AP also features a built-in Dolby® Metadata generator and an optional Dolby® decoder that allows users to decode Dolby-E, Dolby-D (AC-3) and Dolby Digital plus (E-AC-3).

Jünger Audio will complete its Broadcast Asia line-up with the Award-winning T*AP TV Audio Processor and Loudness Logger, a powerful tool that offers customers of all Jünger Audio levelling processors an easy way to monitor the development of the loudness over time. Using this new software, broadcasters can monitor in real time or by analyzing previously stored loudness log files. This innovation is critical as all broadcasters now need to show precisely how their audio levels are performing in order to comply with new legislation on Loudness.
