Myers Unveils New Identity

COMPANY REVEALS LOGO & BRANDING INITIATIVES

Northampton, MA – Myers Information Systems – an established and highly respected developer of broadcast traffic, business, and content management software – today announced a major initiative to refresh the company’s presence in the marketplace. “We’re beginning 2013 – the company’s 30th year in business – by streamlining our name and introducing a new brand identity,” said Crist Myers, company CEO and president.

“We’ve been just plain ‘Myers’ to our customers for some time now. The ‘Information Systems’ part is a bit outdated and limiting; ProTrack has evolved tremendously from its early program management and scheduling software roots into a far more capable and robust broadcast management system that supports the entire broadcast chain from program acquisition to reconciliation,” noted Myers. The new brand identity builds on the company’s solid foundation of long-held and practiced core values: User-centric, innovative software backed by a team of knowledgeable, friendly people. “Myers has enjoyed great success partnering with, and building solutions for public television and radio stations; that’s not changing. We developed the new look to make our brand more accessible to digital content operators in parallel markets, such as corporate, educational, faith-based and government media channels.”

The company’s existing email domain and web address, www.MyersInfoSys.com, will continue.

ProTrack, Myers’ proven flagship suite, is available in both radio and television editions. Actively used by more than 226 media outlets, supporting more than 1,300 channels, ProTrack provides a high-level of structure, scalability, and systems integration for today’s rapidly evolving media environments.

DIFFUSING / SCATTERING SOUND: Sound Diffusion Explained

Acoustic Diffuser DemonstrationAcoustics First has just released another in a series of videos to help explain acoustical principles using simple, easy to understand video demonstrations. This latest demonstration tackles the mystery of acoustic sound diffusion. Using an array of ping pong balls to represent sound visually, this video simply demonstrates what occurs when sound strikes the surface of an acoustic diffuser. First, you will see what happens when sound hits a flat reflective surface with no acoustical treatment. Acoustic Sound DiffuserThe balls all bounce at the same time and in the same direction. This represents what happens to the sound when it hits a flat reflective surface like a wall. Then you see what happens when sound hits an acoustic sound diffuser. You will immediately notice the energy of the wave of balls is scattered in all different directions as well as deflected at different time intervals. Diffusers, disperse or scatter the sound like crowd control, preserving the sound to maintain sound clarity without destructive interference. This is the basic principle behind acoustic sound diffusion.

Clear-Com to Show Tempest®2400 Seamless Roaming and Masterbelt to the European Broadcast Market for the First Time at IBC 2012

AMSTERDAM, 7 SEPTEMBER 2012 ? Clear-Com®, a global leader in critical voice communication systems, is showcasing the Tempest®2400 with Seamless Roaming capability and Tempest®2400 MasterBelt digital wireless intercom for the first time in Europe at IBC 2012 (Stand 10.D29a). In addition to the advanced features, reliability and robustness that are the hallmarks of the Tempest intercom family, the Tempest2400 Seamless Roaming and Tempest2400 MasterBelt offer even more coverage options for users. They are ideal for broadcasters working multi-venue sporting events as well as those requiring ultra-portable communications.

The Tempest2400 Seamless Roaming feature affords broadcasters the ability to move freely and wirelessly throughout large venues that are separated by sizeable distances, such as multi-studio complexes and sports arenas. This ensures that users can walk from one coverage area to another without interference or dropouts. The Seamless Roaming feature allows BeltStation users to migrate between as many as 16 different Tempest2400 BaseStations (coverage areas or zones), allowing audio professionals to focus on critical production cues rather than on the settings of their wireless BeltStations. Both Seamless Roaming and iSelect Roaming are available to accommodate virtually every application need.

Tempest2400 BaseStations are linked together with the newest ZSync (Zero Synchronization) Technology. The ZSync Technology provides a zero-sync reference that coordinates the hopping patterns of all connected BaseStations every time the system is powered up, irrespective of random time variation in power-up sequences. This provides improved system performance and a seamless wireless experience.

Ideal for mobile productions, the Tempest2400 MasterBelt offers most of the advanced features, reliability and robustness of the original Tempest2400 rack-mount BaseStation within a compact, portable package. This enables users to coordinate and communicate hands-free. One MasterBelt can be paired with any standard Tempest2400 CP-222 two-channel BeltStation to create a full-featured two-channel system operating in 80MHz of spectrum in the 2.4-GHz band. The MasterBelt itself also functions as a BeltStation, allowing communications between up to six full-duplex wireless users. The MasterBelt includes a rechargeable lithium-ion polymer battery capable of up to eight hours of operation. It can also be powered by three standard AA alkaline batteries as a backup, providing four hours of operations. As with all Tempest wireless systems, it does not interfere with traditional wireless microphone, IFB or in-ear monitor systems that operate in the UHF band.

All Tempest systems are designed to be comfortable, rugged and robust, and can operate in harsh weather conditions. Each is protected by a durable, weather-resistant ABS co-polymer blend with a high-performance polyurethane over-mold.

The Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum (FHSS) technology is embedded within all Tempest systems, which utilizes a narrow signal band that is continually changing frequencies to burn through RF noise and interference. As a result, the Tempest system does not compete with signals from other 2.4 GHz wireless devices, minimizing frequency coordination and enabling flawless performance. Moreover, the wireless system features state-of-the-art 2xTX Transmission Voice Data Redundancy, which sends each packet of audio data twice on different frequencies and through different antennas, ensuring uninterrupted audio communications.

Tempest2400 systems offer three different modes of operations—normal, shared and split. All modes are supported under the Seamless Roaming function. A single Tempest2400 in normal mode can support between one and five full-duplex wireless users who always need to speak on the intercom system. However, in split or shared mode, an unlimited number of users can monitor the conversation and share talk capability. A combination of Tempest systems operating in either normal or shared mode can co-exist in the same environment for the ultimate in flexibility.

Myers Installs 50th ProTrack MAM System at KOCE-TV

STATION PROVIDES PBS TO THE GREATER LOS ANGELES MARKET

Northampton, MA – Myers Information Systems – a long-standing developer of broadcast traffic, business, and content management software – today announced the successful commissioning of a milestone 50th Media Asset Management (MAM) module for the Company’s flagship ProTrack TV at Southern California’s KOCE-TV. The station – branded as “PBS SoCaL” – offers a full schedule of PBS and local interest programming to viewers in the Greater Los Angeles area.

“Myers was an easy choice: it saves us money and maintenance time, plus it integrates well within our highly automated master control infrastructure,” said director of engineering & technology Gordon Smith. “ProTrack MAM is easy-to-expand and uses standard, rather than proprietary archive file structures; it’s an integral part of Myers’ traffic environment and it ‘plays well’ with our Avid Automation, plus it costs us just a third of the previous system’s license and support fees.”

“We’re extremely pleased at how rapidly our MAM solution’s been adopted, as evidenced by this 50th installation,” said Crist Myers, company CEO and president. “Adding MAM to their existing ProTrack configuration helped KOCE tackle the challenges of becoming Los Angeles’s primary PBS station last year; it lets them repurpose content and automate file-based transfers between archive and playout servers based on the actual ProTrack schedule.” The solution provides real-time insight to scheduling, noting whether content is in-house, within rights to be aired, and compliant with predefined business rules; it helps clear the on-air server with purge orders after confirming a copy is securely in archive. “And ProTrack MAM works equally well with existing middleware solutions or as a standalone within a spinning disk environment,” added Myers.

Myers’ highly regarded flagship suite, ProTrack, is available in both radio and television editions. It offers comprehensive scheduling and business management for individual, multichannel and multi-station facilities. Actively used by more than 226 media outlets, supporting more than 1,300 channels, ProTrack provides a high-level of structure and scalability, without sacrificing flexibility, for today’s rapidly evolving media environments.

Renowned Psy-Trance Group Infected Mushroom Takes Music to the Next Level with SmithsonMartin Emulator

HOLLYWOOD, June 28, 2012— Multi-touch software developer SmithsonMartin Inc., announced that renowned Israeli trance band Infected Mushroom is using Emulator DVS to enhance the stage performance of the band’s current world tour.

Infected Mushroom has been pushing the edge of electronic psychedelic trance music since the duo emerged on the electronic music scene with its ground-breaking 1999 album, The Gathering. Known for its combination of analogue and digital instruments and vocals in the evolving psy-trance sub-genre, the group recently turned to SmithsonMartin’s Emulator DVS to makes its live show more technically and visually stunning.

The Emulator DVS, which was introduced in November 2011 as the next generation of DJ systems, provides a multi-touch MIDI control interface on a huge transparent screen to artists. For electronic artists, the software and technology offers the ability to customize the multi-touch layout of the screen so it fits to the artist, rather than forcing the artist to conform to it.

“In the beginning, we thought it might just look cool, but it’s actually useful,” said Erez Eisen, one-half of Infected Mushroom. “This is obviously the only product that does and looks something like that.”

With a futuristic stage design by Vita Motus supported by 3D visuals by another company using Emulator, V-Squared Labs, Infected Mushroom found Emulator DVS fit right into the atmosphere they were trying to create while also offering a unique control experience provided by no other system. Reliable and flexible in its design and application delivery, Emulator Modular has transformed electronic music and provided Infected Mushroom with a system that has prompted spectacular reviews from audience members and critics alike.

“It’s open. You can do whatever you need. If you need the basic stuff for DJ-ing, it has presets ready, which is great. If you want to go beyond that and do crazy controlling, you design your own interface. It’s simple with drag-and-drop,” said Eisen, who is planning on adding two more Emulator DVS units to his repertoire for studio recording purposes.

WATCH FULL INTERVIEW HERE: http://youtu.be/jvgGPfXeLGA

In the future, Infected Mushroom plans to expand on its use of the Emulator DVS platform for modular synths and to continue using it to enhance the futuristic multimedia atmosphere of its live shows.

“It’s not just beauty. It’s a really, really powerful tool,” Eisen said. “I learned the tool in two days while I was doing other things. I don’t know how I didn’t have it before.”
