More Power to the API Lunchbox

new_lunchbox.JPG

JESSUP, MARYLAND: API’s groundbreaking and industry-leading lunchbox® frame for 500-Series modules just got better. The re-engineered lunchbox boasts many improvements, including an increased power supply current of 215mA per slot, the addition of DB-25 connectors for easy input and output connection and XLR access to channels 7 and 8 of the multi-pins. The revamped lunchbox also provides individual power rail LED indication and re-settable fuses on the power rail of each slot, so that one faulty module will not affect the others. The addition of a 100 Vac input voltage tap allows for wider international versatility.

Despite the numerous changes, the lunchbox’s basic design remains true to its roots. It still has six slots for standard API 500-Series modules, an internal phantom power supply and rugged steel chassis. For now, the new lunchbox remains priced at $499. more

Ben Arthur’s Dubway Days and the Metric Halo ULN-8

ben_al_wes.JPG

HOPEWELL JUNCTION, NEW YORK – FEBRUARY 2011: Ben Arthur is a charismatic, self-made singer/songwriter who has released four critically-lauded albums and opened for such acts as Tori Amos, Bruce Hornsby, and the Dave Matthews Band. His knack for successful collaborations has earned him the friendship of many very talented musicians who tend to fly just under the radar of the mass media. That knack and those friendships will be put to the dramatic test on Dubway Days, a web-TV show – and possible Network TV show – that will air its pilot episode on February 14, 2011 at www.breakthruradio.com. It so happens that Ben Arthur is also an ardent Metric Halo user.

The tagline for Dubway Days, “Two Artists… One Day… One Song,” sums up the mechanics of the show, but its drama hinges on the immensity of that task. Ben Arthur and a guest begin a day of taping in the morning with absolutely no preconceived ideas for a song. Viewers get a front row seat to witness the false starts and eventual magic that evolves from the creative struggle to not just produce music, but to produce great music. Once the song is written, producers Mike Crehore and Al Houghton take the lead to engineer and orchestrate a polished, radio-ready recording of the song using the amazing tools of Dubway Studios. more

Airtools Voice Processor 2X Adds New Preset Features

2xglamour.JPGSEATTLE, WASHINGTON – JANUARY 2011: Heir to the Symetrix legacy of industry-leading voice processors for broadcast, the AirTools Voice Processor 2x implements a feature-rich DSP set that optimizes the sound of on-air voice talent. Latest in the long list of features that makes the Voice Processor 2x easy to incorporate in any studio situation is that now users can import or export specific presets without disturbing any other existing settings.

“Station managers can move the entire device file of one AirTools Voice Processor 2x to another unit, but more specific transfers involving individual presets were not yet possible,” said Mark Ullrich, senior technical sales engineer at Symetrix. “There may be situations where voice talent moves among various studios. With this latest software release, station managers can copy individual presets from one unit and move them to other units without overwriting other device file settings such as dynamic processing or EQ. This adds one more convenience to a device that is already very flexible.” more

JESSUP, MARYLAND: One of the highlights of the recent AES convention in San Francisco was API’s introduction of its brand-new Channel Strip. The API Channel Strip includes a 512C mic pre, the famous 550a EQ, the 527 compressor and the 325 line driver, all well-known and highly-coveted pieces in their own right, now packaged together. Each processing piece can be switched in or bypassed individually, and a flip switch allows the compressor to be placed after the EQ if desired. Additional features include an insert point, side chain input, multiple metering locations, and the famous API 2520/transformer combination.

“There was a need for a leaner, meaner version of the API 7600 that could serve as a stand-alone unit, with just the right features necessary for a comprehensive audio channel,” said Larry Droppa, API president. “We picked all the best parts of an API console channel and put them in a single space unit.” more
