Prism Sound Launches Two Low Cost Versions of SADiE 6

Prism Sound has released two new versions of its SADiE 6 software, which was recently nominated for a TEC Award in the Workstation Technology category.

SADiE 6 Professional and SADiE 6 Lite are designed to bring this ground-breaking audio production and recording software to a much wider audience by allowing users to access the software at a lower price point.

MAGIX Becomes The First DAW Manufacturer To Embrace The Music Producers Guild’s ISRC Initiative

The Music Producers Guild’s efforts to establish an industry standard for embedding ISRC data within digital music files has received a significant boost with the announcement by MAGIX Software GmbH that it will incorporate EBU (European Broadcasting Union) Broadcast WAV files in the latest software upstate for its popular Sequoia Digital Audio Workstation.

From the MPG’s point of view, the importance of ISRC cannot be understated. ISRC, which stands for International Standard Recording Code, is uniquely allocated to every song recorded. These codes are then registered with royalty payment agencies, thus ensuring that recording artists and copyright holders are properly remunerated for their work when it is played on radio or TV.

In the past the ISRC information was included within sub data streams of a CD, but in today’s digital age, where music is often stored on digital WAV files, the ability to securely associate ISRC data with specific tracks has been lost. This is because the only common way to incorporate ISRC into a WAV file is via the file name – and if someone changes the file name or it is truncated or amended by a software program, the vital ISRC information can easily go missing.

To resolve this problem, the MPG’s Mastering Group has been working closely with the EBU to develop an industry-approved method for embedding ISRC data within a WAV file. Following discussions, it was agreed that the best solution was to use was the EBU’s existing Broadcast WAV File (BWF), a variant of the traditional WAV file that was developed for use by broadcasters. The EBU has now agreed to adopt the BWF as standard so that all-important ISRC data can be securely associated with specific tracks.

MPG Mastering Group board member and Alchemy Mastering Engineer Barry Grint, who is leading the BWF initiative, adds: “MAGIX’ decision to incorporate BWF into Sequoia is a significant step forward for the MPG’s initiative and we are delighted that the company has embraced BWF as the standard specification for file exchange. The new system is simple to implement and, once adopted, it will allow ISRC to flow through the whole production chain. We now hope that other DAW manufacturers will follow suit.”

Grint adds that ISRC is set to become the cornerstone of every aspect of digital asset management, from tracking and reporting through to royalty reporting and song identification.

“The entire music industry needs a robust and secure system for identifying tracks, and who had input into their creation, so that we can safeguard the incomes of all artists and copyright owners,” he says. “Ultimately, the adoption of BWF as standard will provide a cornerstone for the MPG’s Credit Where Credit is Due campaign, which aims to highlight the woeful lack of credit information within the digital domain. Our overall goal is to ensure that all music creators receive proper credit and proper payment for their work, and having an industry-standard technical solution that allows credit information to be included in the metadata is a major step forward in achieving this ambition.”

Jünger Audio Introduces the V*AP Voice Processor at NAB 2013

Dynamics specialist Jünger Audio will use the NAB 2013 platform (Booth C2333) to give US broadcasters their first view of V*AP, a brand new two channel voice processor that is specifically designed to make life easier for engineers working in radio stations and TV production voice-over studios.

V*AP, the latest addition to Jünger Audio’s award-winning *AP family of products, draws on the company’s extensive experience with previous Voice Processing devices such as its v-series, but adds new tools and algorithms to create a new, easier and more efficient approach to voice processing with no compromise in sound quality.

V*AP’s main task is to offer perfect control of microphone recordings but Jünger Audio has also included processing such as HP/LP filtering, dynamic section, full parametric EQ and de-essing. All of the V*AP functions can be easily performed, making it hassle free for any journalist or reporter to use. Jünger Audio has also provided a dedicated voice leveler combined with a voice over circuit to help integrate voice programs into loudness-based broadcasting on the fly. Using the optional SDI I/O card automated voice over for embedded audio becomes an attractive feature of the V*AP.

Available as either an insert into a mixing desk or as a stand-alone unit, V*AP offers interfaces that allow integration in existing environments via an AES insert. The unit can also be used with an optional analogue board that adds two high quality mic-preamps.

Another key feature of V*AP is the inclusion of Spectral Signature™, Jünger Audio’s automatic spectral sound management algorithm that dynamically boosts and attenuates frequency bands to preserve natural balance while achieving station sound. With Spectral Signature™, users can automatically analyze the ideal recording of their voice (direct or over telephone lines) and easily create pre-defined sound fingerprints that become the reference the algorithm matches to on all subsequent live recordings.

At NAB 2013, Jünger Audio will also show its ground-breaking M*AP audio loudness processor, which combines an audio monitor controller and a loudness measurement device in one unit, thus providing comprehensive quality control and loudness monitoring for anyone working in a production or broadcast environment.

Designed for quality checking surround (5.1) and/or stereo programs, M*AP can be used for live monitoring and also to ensure compliance with today’s standards and regulations (ITU 1770/1/2/3, ATSC A85 or EBU R128).

The unit comes with alarm signals that alert the operator when pre-set loudness thresholds are exceeded, and these signals can be delivered by simple GPOs and/or SNMP traps, which carry actual loudness values. Loudness measurements can be performed over a long run or over a fraction of a program, or both. These measurements can be triggered by automation systems via GPIs or via the network – or even manually by buttons of the X*AP remote panel.

Alongside loudness measurements, M*AP also offers functionality for acoustical QA. It has eight speaker outputs that allow for A/B checking of stereo compatibility of a surround downmix through alternative speakers, as well as via L/R front speakers.

M*AP also features a built-in Dolby® Metadata generator and an optional Dolby® decoder that allows users to decode Dolby-E, Dolby-D (AC-3) and Dolby Digital plus (E-AC-3).

Harris Demonstrates New PR&E Studio Enhancements for Networked Audio Environments at The Radio Show

Harris introduces programmable button panels that enhance routing capabilities and protect signal destinations, as well as standard metering designs across all Harris® PR&E® studio consoles to improve ease of use. Programmable Button Panels
The new “smart,” dynamic LCD button panels give operators and producers five programmable buttons to initiate audio routes or commands to and from any location. Foremost, the panels shield the air chain and other destinations from accepting undesired audio, maximizing protection in networked studio environments. This means that an on-air operator would need to approve a “request” from another studio to introduce that audio to the program. The buttons similarly protect for remote signal contributions, allowing operators to cleanly initiate mix-minus feeds on-air.

Operators benefit further from clarity on the actual “owner” of the audio source, with rich text and unique color screens offering clear visual information about where each signal originates. This is a key differentiator from competing systems that don’t identify the origination point.

At the 2012 NAB Show, Harris Broadcast Communications will demonstrate how radio broadcasters can maximize transmission efficiency across all power levels — most notably for high-power HD Radio™, FM and AM broadcast operations.

Middle Atlantic and Extron Electronics Initiate New Half Rack Standard for AV Integration

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: February 2, 2012––Middle Atlantic Products, in conjunction with Extron Electronics, is initiating and supporting the establishment of a new standard for half-width rack systems for AV integration.

Working in cooperation with the Electronic Components Industry Association (ECIA), Extron and Middle Atlantic are seeking to establish and maintain a specific ECIA standard for what has typically been offered as a custom rack offering until now. To further strengthen the quality and application of the standard, the two companies are inviting manufacturers of compact-format devices to join a communication and working group for this effort.

Both manufacturers have recently developed product families – the Extron Half Rack Shelf System and Middle Atlantic’s new HR Series Half Racks – which, respectively, fit within and incorporate the proposed 10 5/8” overall width defined in the proposed new standard.

Commenting on the introduction and standard effort, Middle Atlantic Director of Marketing Kevin Handerson stated, “We are pleased to be working with device manufacturing partners to seize the initiative for establishing an ECIA standard for AV half rack systems. OXFORD, UK: In a move designed to provide full native 64-bit support for DAWs such as Logic and Cubase, Sonnox has announced the release of 64-bit versions of native Oxford Plug-ins. In addition to 64-bit compatibility, the new versions also sport updated graphic interfaces. Updates can be obtained from the Sonnox website for as little as $23.00 per plug-in. Sonnox Sales & Marketing Manager, Nathan Eames comments, “We’re constantly working with ever-advancing platforms, and are delighted to be giving our users native 64-bit compatibility with this update. We will also be adding AAX native plug-ins (for Pro Tools 10), free of charge to license holders of the new native versions.”
