NEW YORK: No city personifies diversity like New York. The multiplicity of recording and performing options here would be hard to match in any of the world’s great cities. AES 131st Convention Committee Chair Jim Anderson reports that Technical Tour Chair Lou Manno and Joel Spector of the AES NY Section have developed a series of tours, which dramatically illustrate the scope of NYC’s thriving pro audio community. “There is so much going on in this town that the most difficult part of the job is making a final choice,” Anderson says. “Lou and Joel have clearly got their fingers on the pulse of the city. WSDG Marks European Expansion With New Offices in Germany, Spain

BASEL, SWITZERLAND: Dirk Noy, Walters-Storyk Design Group partner and European GM, has announced the opening of new offices in Cologne, Germany and Barcelona, Spain.

Carlo Fickler, a WSDG team-member since 2006, will lead the Cologne branch. An expert in architectural acoustics and audio/visual technology integration, Fickler will concentrate his energies on existing projects and on expanding the firms’ client base on the Continent. Fickler completed the interdisciplinary program in audio and video technology at the University of Applied Sciences and Robert-Schumann-College of Music Duesseldorf in 2004. Following a year as an assistant recording engineer in NYC, and some freelance work as a sound engineer in Germany, he joined WSDG in Basel Switzerland in 2006.

WSDG’s Cologne branch is equipped with a full complement of advanced measurement equipment and software tools to analyze all room, structural and electro acoustical issues. In keeping with the firm’s business plan, Fickler will interact with all international WSDG offices, and continue to lend his expertise to the firms’ global network of architectural and acoustical experts. more

Jünger Audio Boosts International Sales Team With Two New Appointments

Christoph Harm joins the company from Riedel Communications where he held the position of International Sales Manager with responsibility for the sales of all Riedel products and for generating new business. He will now be based at Jünger Audio’s Berlin office and will be responsible for sales across a number of territories including Italy, BeNeLux, the Middle East, Central Asia, parts of Africa and India. more

AES Educational Foundation Announces 2011 Awards

NEW YORK: The Audio Engineering Society Educational Foundation Board of Directors and president Don Puluse have announced the recipients of the 2011 AES Educational Grants for Graduate Studies in Audio Engineering and related fields. President Puluse has also announced the introduction of a new scholarship, named in honor of Emil Torick, founding member and president of the AES Educational Foundation since its inception in 1984 through 2009. This year’s John Eargle Scholar is David Benson, who will receive a PhD from Schulich School of Music, McGill University, which is where he earned his previous degrees. The Eargle award is given annually to a student who excels in both technology and music. more
